Scuola media Pacuvio-Don Bosco

The class is composed of students who attend their second year of the middle school. The school is located in Brindisi, a town raising in the south east coast of Italy, few miles away from Albania and close to Greece.

The students have got a lot of interests, they like music, theatre,computers and foreign languages. They are excited at the idea they will be able to meet teenagers from all over the world through the internet.

Among the students there is a large group who plays in the symphony orchestra. In the afternoon they do not go back home, they stay at school and practice their symphonies trained by experts in music. Last Christmas they played in a concert that took place in the Cathedral, performing their symphonies in an excellent way.

Another group of students is fond of theatre and devotes their freetime to this ancient art, helped by a director and actors who are teachers of our school.

The class is also involved in writing a school newspaper where they can talk about themselves, their school, their interests, their favouriteTV programmes (the girls love High School Musical, the boys like soccer), the local festivities and traditions and what is important in their life as teenagers.

They are sometimes noisy and active during their English lessons; they like expressing their opinions during our usual communication activities. I sometimes fight to have the class in order especially when we are doing something they like. They become less active when they have to learn grammar and are concentrated at grasping the rule to be learnt.

This project offers them the possibilty to learn English not as a boring recording of grammar rules, but as a way of communication with their peers.

It opens a window on the world. Thanks for this opportunity!!!
