______

My grandmother?s heirloom is my grand father?s watch. She keeps it safe because when my grand father died he left his watch behind. So that is why it is so dear to my grandmother.

When she was a little girl she used to play with dolls made up of stone. She loved to play out side and shopping. She always got wounds but did not cry and loved making styles. When she was young, there were many wars and my grand mother?s family had to face many hardships and my grand father was a Carnal. My grand father gave his gun to my father. My grand mother had jewelley of gold which she keeps very dear and safe because my grandfather gave that jewellery as gift to her.

She always keeps her things near to herself. Her heirloom is a white sheet and some jewellery. The white sheet is the memory of when she went for Hajj ( pilgrimage). She has kept that sheet in one of her cupboards, and the jewellery was given to her by her mother in law who loved her a lot. She keeps these things very near and dear to her.

We, the school going children don?t get special opportunity to gather round the grand parents and listen and enjoy the stories of their childhood. When ever our grand mother comes to visit us or we to see her, we all sit together and listen to her childhood stories.

She belonged to the royal family of Mughals. Her great great grand father was one of the Mughal empires, she always feels very proud of being a princess and we always love this. She was brought up in a palace that is still situated in the interior of Lahore. Where there was a huge staircase for elephants. The luggage and other odds were done on elephants and horses. She used to play hide and seek and loved to sit on the stairs with her younger brother and sisters and to watch the elephants come and go.

She talks about her mare very lovingly which was gifted to her by her father. Mare was of white and very cute. She keeps the rope of the, are as a treasure of her childhood. She also narrates her voyages on the boat in the River Ravi, when she used to go with her family the Barra Dari.( an open place with 12 passages)

She still remembers the gold coins which were used as currency in those days, the shining and sparkling dresses and embroided shoes.

This all fascinates us so much that we wait for our grand mother?s next visit for listening her early days.

------------------------------------------------Ruqqaya

she has a good communication skills. she is quite creative and her drawing is excellent.

The October Project

My grand mother is very old. She mostly lives in her past. She knows things which modern people don?t.

My grand mother remembers very little about the past. What she remembers is that she did not go to school but was educated at home by her father. She was born in a village and grew up there. She learnt house work and cooking. Her mother passed away when she was very young and also she was married at very stage, My grand father was very pious. When he passed away my grand mother went to live with her sons.

She keeps her husband?s lenses from his glasses, his walking sticks and umbrella as a treasure of her life with her husband. She has also many things but just in her memory.

The Project of November:

Maira

As we know that there was no electricity at that time in Pakistan. so there was no T.V. for entertainment, no computer for information, no electric fans, that is why they used hand fans. They used cell radios which are not seen much now. there was no sui gas for cooking. they used spin wheel which cant be seen any more. the mobiles are very common in these days which were no more existing at that time. my granni likes the old ages because that was a peaceful time.

---------------------------------

Bint-e-Zainab,

now a days we have many facilities but the time when my grand ma was of my age at that time pakistan just came into being so many of the facilities were not available. Now a days we have electricity and appliances worked by it. But there was no electricity at that time. we have electronic fans but they used a big hand fan, a rope was attatched with it and a person had to pull it. There was no sui gas at that time. they made fire by twigs and leaves. Now a days we have many ways to communicate, at that time they used a gramophone to communicate. It was a simple machine by which they could send messages. We are fond of music but at that time they had a telegram, it was an instrument on which different records were played. My granni told me that the life at that time was much simpler than now a days.

Ruqayya,

In the oldern days my gandmother lived a very simple life. she was a middle aged woman when our country became independent, so she is very old. She had no electricity or gas in her village. Instead of cookers, fires were lit. At that time things were cheap . for one Rupee there were 10 kg of molasses, now for about 30 Rs are asked just for one kg.Soap was available but most of the other things were made at home , money was used carefully, there was shortage of coins, Clothes and dishes were washed by hands as there were no washing machines. There were no radios , people used to send letters for communication. My granni says that every stage of my life was nice in its own way.

Mishal,

when my grand mother was of my age , there were no modern inventions, no colour T.Vs' were there, and there were Black and white T.V's. Only one channel was available over ther, There were no girnders so people had to do it with stones. The prices were very low, and life was so boring and hard. No modern inventions were there. So I dont like the old times, my granni says. She says that old times were better than the modern times because it was peace and harmony then.

-----------------------------

Ahsan,

My grand mother says , there are many new inventions which were not around her , when she was a child. According to my grand mother the life at that times was very tough , it was no easy as it is today. Today more stress is on indoor activities, due to the modern inventions . In her times both indoor and outdoor activities were equally there. Instead of coolers and air conditioners, fans were used.

Pitcher of clay were used instead of refrigerators, telephones and letters were used for communications, instead of mobile phones and internet black T.V was found, in very few houses.

People of the community used to sit together, in those houses, to watch t.v. Simple broom was there instead of vaccum cleaners. Coal and wood were used for cooking,. There were many things which were not availbale in those days like computer, internet, vcd, cd players, and DVD.
