How will you inspire your students to read this year? Why not try a project that will get your students reading, talking and writing. Hooked on Books encourages your students to take time to read, share and reflect -- with children in their class, their country, world-wide.

Be sure you have permission to post student work on the World Wide Web. School districts usually have requirements that teachers must follow.

1. Project Description and Summary

The Hooked on Books project began in 1999 under the direction of its creator and moderator, Jane Brock.

Our current moderator is Doug Cameron. His goal for Hooked on Books is to encourage students to read and share their favorites.

2. Required Materials

Though there are suggested themes during the year, there are no pre-selected titles. Students and classes are free to choose and review the books they wish to read.

Students post their reviews in KidSpace and receive feedback.

3. Project Timeline

The Hooked on Books project will accept reports on all types of books. These reports may be submitted at anytime during the school year.

For the 2006-2007 term of the school year the Hooked on Books project will be featuring several segments.

4. Target Age Group

The Hooked on Books project has been created for students in grades 3 to 8.

5. Project Language

While Kidproj-Multi welcomes projects and participation in all languages, the main language for Hooked on Books will be English.

6. How to Join Hooked on Books

A. To register for the Hooked on Books project, e-mail a project moderator:

In your e-mail, state that you wish to register for Hooked on Books and include your

• name,
• e-mail address,
• name of school,
• city/country
• the number of student participants.

Registration information will be sent to you by return e-mail.

B. All participating students must also answer the 4 Kidlink questions found at http://www.kidlink.org/response/

7. How to Post Your Students' Work

There are three ways teachers can post work -- text and illustrations:

• directly into a page created for you by KidSpace staff and linked to Hooked on Books
• to the mailing list kidproj@listserv.nodak.edu
• to both of the above
