National Science Education Standards The goals for school science that underlie the National Science Education Standards are to educate students who are able to:
- experience the richness and excitement of knowing about and understanding the natural world;
- use appropriate scientific processes and principles in making personal decisions;
Fundamental Concept: Nutrition is essential to health. Students should understand how the body uses food and how various foods contribute to health. Recommendations for good nutrition include eating a variety of foods, eating less sugar, and eating less fat.
Reading Standard:
Students read to locate, select, and make use of relevant information from a variety of media, reference, and technological sources.
Writing Standard:

Students will:
- select and use simple devices ( a food diary) to gather data related to an investigation
- use data based on observations to construct a reasonable explanation
- communicate about investigations and explanations
- identify, compare, and predict variables and conditions related to change
- read and evaluate sources of information
- use higher level thinking skills to create a Nutrition Puzzle
NETS Standards for Students
Students :
- Use technology productivity tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity.
- Use telecommunications tools to collaborate, publish, and interact with peers, experts, and other audiences.
- Use technology research tools to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources.
