Hello!

We are looking forward to sharing about our community and learning about yours!

Our planet is Earth

Our country is the United States ofAmerica.

Our state is Illinois.

Our town is Gurnee

We are at 42.3ºN, 87.9ºW.

Gurnee is a good place because it is in the middle between Chicago and Milwaukee.  In Chicago there are good restaurants, stores, Millennium Park, the Sears Tower, the Lincoln Park Zoo, the Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, the Museum of Science and Industry, the ArtInstitute, Navy Pier with a big Ferris Wheel and many more.  In Milwaukee there are museums and parks.  Both cities are on Lake Michigan and have nice beaches.

Six Flags is anamusement park.  At Six Flags you can getin pools, rides and roller coasters.  Andyou can play carnival games and win stuff. Six Flags is very fun for kids teenagers and grownups.  There is pizza, donuts and hot dogs.  It is very fun.  You should go!

Viking Park is close to our school.  Viking Park is a lot of fun.  A lot of kids play there.   There are fun things like soccer, volleyball, tennis, ping-pong and other fun stuff.  Sometimes there are events like singing, dancing and playing music.

The Des Plaines River is important because at the very beginning there was a farmer that built a farm.  The river gave the farmer rich soil and water.

Sometimes the DesPlaines River is trouble.  It flooded Gurnee Grace School so badly that they had to tear down the school.  That is when the students and staff moved into this building and renamed it River Trail School.  Last summer the DesPlaines River flooded Grand Avenue.  Then they had to close the road for several days.

The Mother Rudd House is important because it is the oldest building in Gurnee.  It is 176 years old.  It was built as an inn for travelers.  There was a barn for their horses.  Later it became the town hall, the post office, a dance hall and a voting place.  It was the only house with a well.  The Mother Rudd House is also important because it was part of the underground railroad that helped slaves to escape to Canada in the 1860's.  The slaves hid in the barn during the day and went to another house at night.  They were going to Canada because they were safe in Canada.
