Language Area Coordinators are encouraged to
find some volunteers to help them with their work. Here's a draft "advertisement"
that might be used to achieve this.
Where to send it?
In the English, Spanish, and Portuguese areas,
send to the Kidlink announcement
list in the respective areas. In the other language areas, send to your
Kidleader list.
Draft text
Subject: Helpers needed for the
Who-Am-I? program
Text:
I am looking for teachers interested in helping
me with the coordination of the
Who-Am-I? program in the xxxx language area.
If you don't know what the
Who-Am-I?program is, please visit this web page, and click
on your language of choice:
In this program, I'm
the language area coordinator for [write the name of your language area
here]. I work directly with teachers participating in the program, helping
them to solve practical problems that they might have using the
"Who-Am-I?" in their classroom. For example, I'm here if
they wonder about the contents of the program modules, or how to use them
within their curriculums. I help them get to know each other, and avoid
misunderstandings.
I help with technical
problems, which may include how to use
Kidlink's IRC, how to post student information on
Kidlink's web, and general email problems. I advise
them on how to use some students as classroom helpers so that less work ends
up in the teachers' laps.
When I receive difficult
questions, I turn to my supporters in the
Who-Am-I? program's team:
Kidlink's webmaster,
Kidlink's mailing list manager, the designers of the
various program modules, and Patti Weeg, who is coordinating across language
areas.
I also try to get more
teachers involved in the program with their classes.
As you can see, I'm
pretty busy, and would love to have some other teachers to help me. In
particular, I need help in the following areas:
-
"moderate" the module, keep dialogue flowing,
keep the kids on schedule as far as working through the various lessons and
objectives in the modules. This means a lot of interaction with the kids
(and teachers) on the list.
-
answer questions (if you don't know the answer,
just forward them to me)
-
invite other teachers to participate
So, what's in it for you?
You'll learn a lot
about the program's contents, and how other teachers use it in their classrooms.
You'll learn much about how
Kidlink works, and how to use the resource
in your classroom. You'll get to know many nice persons.
We will be pleased
to recognize your help at our language area's "Welcome In! page" for everybody
to see. Besides, it will be exciting and fun!
Qualifications? You
must be a teacher. That's it! Because you'll learn as you walk. I want
people with classroom experience rather than technical computer experts
(*smile*). We have other people to help you answer such questions. You can
live anywhere in the world.
How much will it take?
Up to you. You can work until you fall asleep at night. 15 minutes a day
will also be great. Continuity is important.
If you're interested
in becoming a part of our team, please drop me a line at [insert your
email address here].
Yours sincerely
[your name, and where you live/work]
