Developing a Rubric with Students

Decide which tasks or skills will be assessed throughout the "Who Am I?" module and together with students set the criteria for measuring the quality of their work. A blank rubric sheet can be copied and distributed to the students for their planning.

Sample task from "Where do I Live?" module Lesson 1:

As a group or individually write a descriptive essay about a special place in your area that has meaning for you. In your essay be sure to tell why this place is important to you. When you write, list specific details using adjectives, nouns and verbs to describe the sights, sounds, and smells of the location. You might want to take a pad and pen and visit the place so that you can better express your ideas.
