The students begin the eight week journey into the heart of where they live by introducing themselves to each other. They will describe their cities and towns and include interesting facts about the places where they live.

They will think about the physical characteristics of their area as well as the unique qualities of the people who live there. They will compare their area to the places where their online friends live. The students will describe games they play and the work that grownups do where they live.

Time Line:
Northern and Southern Hemisphere Dates

Weeks Topics
Weeks 1 and 2 Can You Find Me?
Weeks 3 and 4 Living Things Where I Live
Weeks 5 and 6 The Places Where I Learn
Weeks 7 and 8 Our Global Village

During weeks three and four of the module the students will take an online journey into the places where other participants live and look at the living things in those places. Who are the people who live in our areas? How do they make their living and spend their recreational hours? What animals and plants are found where we live? How are they surviving in the environment?

During weeks five and six the kids will focus on their education, in a school, at home, or in their environment. The students will describe a typical learning day and their feelings about school, education and what they feel educates them. They are encouraged to collect information from each other and to compare learning situations around the world. A graphic representation of this data is suggested and encouraged so that the students can make some analysis of the data and gather new insights.

In the last two weeks of the module the students look around them and define themselves as human beings in their global village and celebrate our diversity through a deeper understanding and appreciation of our unique cultural richness. An International Dinner event to be held at participating schools is a suggested culminating activity.

You will find many discussion questions and classroom activities in each weekly lesson. No one is expected to do them all! We give you many ideas but feel free to use those that are appropriate for your class.

Teachers are encouraged to use their own imagination and ideas within this module. The description is only a guide but other things related to the topic are always welcome.
