Participation in this module will allow your students to practice many skills and concepts in a variety of subject matter areas.

Language Arts/Writing

  • Using the steps within the writing process
  • Writing for different audiences and purposes: to inform, to express personal ideas, to persuade
  • Writing in different forms including, but not limited to, poetry, haiku and limerick
  • Comparing and contrasting ideas from several sources
  • Researching local folklore, fables, legends, tales and family traditions
  • Conducting interviews
  • Writing a journal

Math

  • Analyzing and interpreting data using charts and graphs
  • Calculating basic mathematical operations
  • Identifying time zones of the other participants
  • Classifying information into categories
  • Using graphic organizers such as a Venn Diagram
  • Comparing Celsius and Fahrenheit
  • Some sample links to Jordan's math curriculum

Social Studies

  • Locating the cities of the other participants using latitude and longitude
  • Learning about recreational activities and sports in other countries
  • Describing holidays, festivals and local customs
  • Collecting regional recipes
  • Making maps
  • Identifying famous landmarks, landforms, local architecture
  • Researching local and national heroes
  • Making timelines for historical events

  • Justifying and defending their opinions

  • Evaluating reliability of information
  • Gathering ideas from human sources - peers around the world

Health Education

  • Dealing with interpersonal relationships, accepting students from different cultures
  • Planning an International Dinner
  • Exploring multicultural recipes

Physical Education

  • Learning about and playing multicultural games
  • Planning a Multicultural Sports Day

Life Skills

  • Self-awareness; understanding own needs & desires; increasing self-esteem and self-responsibility.
