Opening a Kidlink KHouse: Building It
| Internet access may be provided in a building
dedicated to the
Kidlink House telecenter, or it may be a time-share
arrangement in some other organization's computer lab.
Prospects for time-share arrangements
may include a local Internet cafés, a library, a museum, another school,
or in a private company.
This page details some of the items that should be included when building a dedicated Kidlink House telecenter. It may also be useful to browse when planning a time-share arrangement with someone else. Please note that this page is just an example. |

| Premises (is cooperation with libraries, schools, possible?) | PROJ |
| Computers/local area network Used or surplus equipment may be valuable, but shipping and delivery logistics, and the risk of getting obsolete or difficult-to-maintain equipment make it an inferior option. Beware of dead monitors! Repairs may be more expensive, sometimes impossible. Getting older computers to work takes patience, tenacity and great learning skills. The KHouse should have same brand/type of computers. Differing software may require confusing and/or conflicting instructions to users, and puts an extra burden on staff. On the other hand, participation in Kidlink might be done with "weak" computers, as users can come a long way with just electronic mail. For email-only work, even monochrome monitors may work. |
