| 16:15 | "Internet na Escola: Chatting in Portuguese Schools"
The Programa Internet na Escola is a national initiative led by the Portuguese Ministry of Science and Technology, within the Information Society framework. From 1997, all 5th to 12th grade schools have been connected to the Internet with ongoing connection of all primaries till the end of 2001. The programme aims at stimulating students and teachers to use Internet for educational purposes, through both presential and distance support - a web site is central on this approach. Since this network includes both universities, primary and secondary schools, it forsters communication between the scientific community and schools. Various telematic activities have been carried out to take advantage of this opportunity, on an integrated tools approach whenever necessary and justifiable. Some of these activities will be presented, particularly those that use IRC for student communication between schools |
