His anthem is "Get the kids engaged, and open the computer labs!". He is also coordinating a TechGirls Network for primary and secondary school girls who want to know more about computers.
Stellan has built Kidlink's Italian language activities, and is now coordinating our Swedish activities. In addition, he is Kidlink's Web Contents Advice.

09:30 "Experiences in the Spanish language community"

Beverlyn has used Who-Am-I? in her class at Gorton High School in Yonkers, New York since the start. She is assistant manager of Kidlink's Spanish language activities, which is very active.

Lely lives in Montevideo, Uruguay, has been teaching kids in both private and public primary schools since 1974. Today, she teaches at Colegio Nacional José Pedro Varela, where she also acts as a technology facilitator. She also teaches at St. Catherine's School and Liceo Jean Piaget.
Lely is the southern hemisphere Who-Am-I? program's manager, and manager of Kidlink's Spanish language activities.
She has been around Kidlink since May 1992. So, she's soon been around for 10 years!

10:00 Starting step-by-step in Catalan

Neus lives and teaches at IES La Guineueta in Barcelona, where many speak Catalan. She teaches part-time at the Centre de Recursos de Llengües Estrangeres de la Generalitat de Catalunya. Several teachers have joined her in Who-Am-I? She coordinates Kidlink's Catalan language activities. Like Norwegian, Catalan is a relatively small language area. The Ethnologue claims there are 4,000,000 mother tongue speakers plus 5,000,000 second or third language speakers in Spain. Through their own language, they learn ICT literacy, and can move to communication in foreign languages with more ease later on.

10:45 I have a dream

A cross-curriculum program for students through secondary school.

There are limits to how long your students will be willing to work with Who-Am-I? Once through, they're done. Their next interest will now be to start in some meaningful activities with new friends. And, what might be more meaningful than a joint project to realize an individuals top dream about the future?

11:15 The Kidproj Building Bridges project

How do we create communication when kids have difficulties with the languages, and how do we use art to change that? This was a key issue for Patti when Kidlink's Kidproj began the still ongoing "Building Bridges" project in 1993. It is about helping bridge language barriers that keep us from understanding each other. It uses Art, photographs and sound as special ways to communicate about everyday life. Within each topic of the project, teachers are encouraged to incorporate desired learner outcomes that stem from their curriculum guides. The project will go on indefinitely... [Check the Alphabet Book!]
Patti is mostly teaching young primary school kids. She joined Kidlink in 1992, and has been manager of Kidlink's multi-lingual Kidproj area since 1995. She's written two books.

13:00 Kidlink's Four Questions - the heart of THE BRIDGE

All contacts between people start with some kind of introduction. While free for all young users, Kidlink requires that they submit their answers to the following four questions:

  1. Who Am I?
  2. What Do I Want To Be When I Grow Up?
  3. How Do I Want The World To Be Better When I Grow Up?
  4. What Can I Do Now To Make This Happen?

What do our next generation think, really? What challenges do the response team face when approving responses?

Epi from Puerto Rico heads the team of response approvers, and Anne-Tove from Arendal is an active team member.

13:45 The Italians are coming

Pia Avolio de Martino is coordinating Who-Am-I? in Italian. She is a math and science teacher living in Monza near Milano, Italy, and uses the program with her students. She also moderates the "Io mi descrivo, tu mi disegni" project ("I describe me, you draw me"). In November, she was part of the team that received the 1st Prize in the Global Junior Challenge in Rome on behalf of Kidlink.

14:30 Who-Am-I? at the Westman Islands

Eygló is Manager of Kidlink's Icelandic area, and coordinates Who-Am-I? in this language. She teaches at the Barnaskóli Vestmannaeyja, and can talk at length about projects on whales and national tales. About sharing cultural differences within a country to help students adapt to the global community. In a country that focuses more than most on protecting and strengthening their language.
