As of April 1998,
Kidlink volunteers have worked with children from the
Fulni-ô nation (Brazilian
indigenous tribe). Initially, ten children were served through KHouse Trindade
in Récife, 311 km away from where they live, in cooperation with the
city of Récife 's Dept. of Education.
In 1999, Odd de Presno
met with elders of the Fulni-ô village. Afterwards,
a plan for expanded
provision of
Kidlink contents
to the tribe's children was drafted.
In April 2000, the
Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC/ProInfo) established a telecenter for
the village's inhabitants. By getting access to the new resource,
KHouse Infotaba
was established . Today, it serves 504 kids, 242 youth, and 20 professors
from indigenous schools. Four volunteers from Recife provide support.
