Kidspace

Kidcom

A virtual collection of "rooms" for collaboration between children, between adults using Kidlink with their children(like teachers and parents), and between volunteers.

Adults may view children's interaction without privacy being compromised, but can not talk with them in their rooms, nor get personal details. Each child is identified by a nickname and country, as in "OleT from Norway," plus its answers to the 4 registration questions about life.

Each room a chat area, documents and tools for making collaboration productive. A user may post a document, which is immediately made available for everybody in the room, and make reference to it for simultaneous viewing and discussion..

A discussion history is automatically updated so a debate may continue after a formal meeting. At any time, a child may leave its reaction to what has been said before. When others are in the room, you will see the words they write within a few seconds, like instant messaging.

All a user needs is a standard web browser. KidCom is fast and interactive, but not a traditional "chat area." No software must be retrieved and installed to use it. It uses plain web technology with no advertising.

While users are identified by nicknames, they are not anonymous. Use of fake names or aliases is impossible, and the dialog between children is closely monitored.
