Description =========== Kids will discuss and share with others the importance of art, dance or music in their lives. There are many artforms that can be included such as drawing, dance, folk art, sculpture, weaving, poetry and many more. As an introduction you could: 1.Write an essay about your favorite art form. 2.Start by "brainstorming" a list of all the art forms (past and present) that exist in your country. Now, think globally and list art forms you know from other countries. In this first step, the arts we associate with particular countries may actually originate elsewhere. If you aren't sure where the art form originated, do a little research or, when posting it to the list, put a " ? " after the country of origin. 3.Post your arts list to KIDFORUM and compare your list with those posted by other students. You may want to chart, graph, map the arts listed, or make a collage or mural to represent them. 4.Discuss similarities and differences. Are there any forms that you think are really unique to your country? 5.After "brainstorming" the list write up and share your own definition of art. Considering the topic, you may want to shape your definition as a slogan, a simile, a mobile, a stenciling on your windows or walls, a graffitti wall (PLEASE DO NOT WRITE OR PAINT ON WALLS UNLESS YOU HAVE PERMISSION FROM YOUR TEACHER OR ADULT LEADER. An alternative, if you have some, would be to use chalk (with permission) on a sidewalk or wall. MELES ... Lynne and her students will get a sample mele together and tell us about the origin of that art form. Students could then create their own meles (and illustrate them?) Are there art forms in your country that have a similar origin? KIDFORUM Discussion =================== Students will use the KIDFORUM list to exchange their creativity write. We hope that they will share their feelings and tell us why particular art is so interesting or so important for them. We expect them to send art works as well. Moderator ========= We will have three moderators this time. Mary Esborn is the one who came up with the idea of including Art in the KIDFORUM topic. She thinks that art forms are very important in lives of our kids and says:"I believe that many kids express themselves better through the arts than through the words." Maxine Shindel and Lynne Sueoka, the other two moderatos of our topic have expended the thought about coolaborating work on plays, poetry and other art forms. Lynne offered to show kids around the world among otheres also Hawaiian meles. Participation ============= We would like to get formal participation announcement send to Mary or Alenka Our e-mail addresses are: Mary: Baldwint@biomed.med.yale.edu Alenka: makuc@public1.noprmd.mail.si Maxine: mshindel@umd5.umd.edu Lynne: lynnes@kalama.doe.Hawaii.edu NOTE: You do NOT have to start with the project April 7th, you can join in later. But of course it is most exciting to participate all the time. First step: =========== First of all the children should send an answer to the 4 KIDLINK questions to RESPONSE@vm1.NoDak.EDU and NOT to the KIDFORUM list. 1) Who am I? 2) What do I want to be when I grow up? 3) How do I want the world to be better when I grow up? 4) What can I do now to make this happen? If they have already answered the questions they do not have to do it again. IMPORTANT: KIDFORUM is for kids aged 10-15 only! Outlines ======== Please note that ONLY the children can send letters to KIDFORUM. The teachers can discuss the topic in the KIDPLAN list. The children like to get responses on what they send, encourage them to discuss ideas in KIDFORUM. They can either send letters as a group or as individuals. Subscription to KIDFORUM ======================== To join the KIDFORUM list, send an email message to: LISTSERV@vm1.NoDak.EDU or LISTSERV@NDSUVM1 (Bitnet) with the following command in the TEXT of your message: SUB KIDFORUM Your-first-name Your-last-name Use your real name, not a computer name. Make sure you send the request to the LISTSERV address and not to any of our lists. ======================== It is very exciting to have a topic related to the Art in KIDFORUM. We all know that we have an interesting ART Galery in KIDLINK with many nice pictures from kids all over the world. During the days from 23rd till 26th of April, Sebastian Marquez from Sweeden will organise the KIDLINK 1995 Worldwide Computer Art Exibition which will take place at the Botkyrka Friskola in Stockholm, Sweeden. Maybe participating kids in our topic will have the opportunity to correspond with kids from Botkyrka Friskola to hear more about the exibition.
