We all agree that it is important that our kids answer the questions after giving them a good thought. Now and then we have discussed that after the kids have answered the questions they should be able talk to each other about their answers. Therefore we decided that this would be our topic in KIDFORUM at this time and at the same time relate it directly to the basic of KIDLINK. Description =========== (Created by Mary Esborn, Zoraini Wati Abas, Lara Stefansdottir and ) ( Alenka Makuc ) There has been discussion that the answers to the four KidLink questions need to be taken more seriously by kids and their adults. The questions are NOT JUST a ticket into other KidLink projects but should be answered thoughtfully and carefully. This topic will be based on the RESPONSE to the four KidLink questions, as well as the basic thoughts behind KIDLINK. Once the answers to the questions have been sent, this project can be done by individual students, by groups of students, or by entire classes. Some of the ideas that will be addressed during the topic are: * What should be done with the answers to your questions? * What do you think about other kids answers? * Do you think question 4 is difficult? Why? * Discuss what you learn about people through their answers * List the similarities you see in the answers from countries. * List the differences in the answers from other countries? * How can adults now use your answers to make a better world? * Reflect on your own answers, how do you think differently now? What made you change your mind? * Based on the 4 questions, what do you think KIDLINK is? If the 4 KidLink questions have already been answered, others can search for answers in the RESPONSE list so that the questions don't have to be answered again. It is also an good idea to contact those that are sending in their answers and talk to them about the questions. Moderators will teach how to search the KidLink database for RESPONSE information. IMPORTANT: one of the main purposes in KIDFORUM is to create dialogue between kids aged 10-15. Please emphasize on that during the topic. Moderators ========== Our moderators this time are: Zoarini Wati Abas from Faculty of Education in the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Mary Esborn from Baldwin and Adams Middle Schools, Guilford, CT, USA. Mary is well known from moderating previous topics in KIDFORUM. Participation ============= We would like to get formal participation announcement so we can send you a participation list. Our e-mail numbers are: Moderators: ----------- Zoarini : zwabas@zoraini.pc.my Mary : esborn@biomed.med.yale.edu Coordinators: ------------- Alenka : alenka.makuc@public1.noprmd.mail.si Lara : lara@ismennt.is NOTE: You do NOT have to start with the project September 1st you can join in later. But of course it is most exciting to participate all the time. First step: =========== First of all the children should send an answer to the 4 KIDLINK questions to RESPONSE@vm1.nodak.edu and NOT to the KIDFORUM list. 1) Who am I? 2) What do I want to be when I grow up? 3) How do I want the world to be better when I grow up? 4) What can I do now to make this happen? If they have already answered the questions they do not have to do it again. IMPORTANT: KIDFORUM is for kids aged 10-15 only! Outlines ======== Please note that ONLY the children send letters to KIDFORUM the teachers can discuss the topic in the KIDPLAN list. The children like to get responses on what they send, encourage them to discuss ideas in KIDFORUM. They can either send letters as a group or as individuals. Subscription to KIDFORUM ======================== To join the KIDFORUM list, send an email message to: LISTSERV@vm1.NoDak.EDU or LISTSERV@NDSUVM1 (Bitnet) with the following command in the TEXT of your message: SUB KIDFORUM Your-first-name Your-last-name Use your real name, not a computer name or "Your-first-name Your-last-name". Make sure you send the request to the LISTSERV address and not to any of our lists. ======================== It is very important that we discuss the meaning of the KIDLINK questions and how the kids perseive them. Therefore we think that it is a great oppotunity to do this in KIDFORUM now. We encourage kids to participate in the topic, discuss the questions and how the answers should be treated with in the KIDLINK project. We think that this topic will be very important for the KIDLINK project in the future.
