KidShow

Remember, this was before the advent of World Wide Web. Even Windows was relatively new. Most users still used MS-DOS programs. Kidlink needed some information tool that was more attractive, and could provide different information to different audiences.
The answer was a DOS presentation "program" called Kidshow. Technically, it consisted of a special display program, and around 270 "slide" files. The whole chebang was was distributed as a self-extract .exe file.
If you have a MS Windows computer, and want to try it out for yourself, this is what you must do:
  1. Retrieve kidsh30.exe (516 Kb in size).
  2. Save the file in an empty directory on your harddisk. Make a note about where you put it. ;-)
  3. Go into DOS (if you don't know how to do this, Press the START button, and enter c:\command.com at the command line. A MS-DOS window will open.
  4. Navigate to the desired directory using the CHDIR command. If you don't know how to do this, try this
    • CHDIR \ (this command will bring you to the top of your present drive)
    • CHDIR \directory_name\ (if you replace "\directory_name\ by the correct name of the directory where you saved the file, then this command will take you there. If you saved it on another drive, like E:, type E: first to get there).
  5. You should now be in the correct directory. Enter
    DIR KIDSHOW30.EXE
to get a confirmation that you are at the place when the file has been stored.
  6. Enter KIDSHOW30 and press the Enter key. All the pages in the transportation package will be decompressed and stored in the directory.
  7. Enter KIDSHOW to enjoy the presentation.

Good luck!
