KIDLINK Gallery of Computer Art Catalog of Exhibition (as of: 1992 August 22) The KIDLINK Gallery of Computer Art presents works by kids in response to the creative challenge. The challenge is as follows: Youths are encouraged to express their future visions ("how they see themselves as adults in their desired future world") in as many creative ways as they can. The Gallery is primarily for works that were created on computers. These works often are not reproduced well on the commonly available printers. Distribution as computer files maintains the graphic qualities of the originals and allows them to be seen by a wider audience. The Gallery of Computer Art is a small part of the overall Creative Challenge. Inquiries and submissions of works in other media should be sent to Anne-Tove Vestfossen, KIDLINK, 4815 Saltrod, NORWAY. The works in the collection are stored as files on the LISTSERVer at North Dakota State University. The format is UUEncoded GIF files with names ARTnnn. These are text files that can be retrieved via ordinary electronic mail. An explanation is available in the file ARTHELP. Files can be retrieved from the listserver by sending mail to either LISTSERV@NDSUVM1.BITNET or LISTSERV@VM1.NODAK.EDU. The only contents of the mail message should be lines of the form: GET KIDART ARTCAT GET KIDART ARTHELP GET KIDART ART001 GET KIDART FILELIST The files that you request will be sent to you as text by the listserver. The FILELIST will give you a complete list of all the files available. Viewing the Art --------------- When you receive the files from the LISTSERVer, the first step is to download them to your microcomputer. Then you use a UUDecoder program to convert the text file back into a binary graphics file. Finally, you use a GIF viewer program to display the artworks on your screen. We are working on providing detailed instructions and programs for these five computer system: MS-DOS, Macintosh, Amiga, Atari, and Apple II. Some draft versions of these are available now. Usage Policy ------------ We expect those who display, reproduce, or publish the works in the KIDLINK Gallery of Computer Art to give credit both to the artist and to the KIDLINK Project. The works should also be used only in ways which respect the integrity of the artists and all the other kids and adults involved in the KIDLINK projects. Publications which normally pay for artworks are expected to pay their normal professional rate to the artist for reproducing works from the KIDLINK Gallery. KIDLINK will assist in making arrangements for payment.
