"The Silent Song" for flute and piano

by Janis Petraskevics, Latvia

During the May 12 Kidlink Celebration, then called the Kids-91 celebration, a "creative challenge" was arranged. In our newsletter, we wrote:

Many children and classes submitted contributions to the Creative Challenge. They sent drawings, paintings, water color, collages, calligraphy, computer graphics, musical compositions, videos, and animation.

An international jury selected three individual winners of the Creative Challenge Competition. One of them was young Mr. Janis Petraskevics, Latvia (born 1978), who had submitted a composition for flute and piano written for KIDS-91 called "The Silent Song".
At the time, Janis lived in Odd de Presno's house with his family. They could not return home as people where fighting in the streets of Riga. These were the days when the Soviet Union was collapsing.
Here are Janis' original notes of his composition. If you are able to play it with friends, please send us a copy of your piece of music, for example as a midi file. We may well hook it up to this page for others to hear.
