Thoughtful Ideas on "Rights" from Italy and Delmar, Maryland

HELLO FRIENDS!
I have a lot of rights at school: I'm respected by my school friends, my teachers usually listen to me, I can express my opinion about a lot of things, they understand my problems and try to help me to solve them. But sometimes I don't agree about the short break time we have, or about the way things are cared: for example our toilets are not always very clean, we have dirty walls, old desks and chairs. Or, we haven't got any closets where to keep our books or clothes safe. Last month something very unpleasant happened because of this: one of my school-friends was robbed of a small amount of money.
BYEBYE Alessandro

Hi, I'm Roberta and I think my rights at school are: to be heard, have a break, to learn, to be respected. In my opinion these rights aren't always respected. In fact some teachers respect these rights, other don't. For example some teachers don't allow us to go to the toilet, but this isn't important. It is important when they don't hear to us, but this isn't frequent. My school starts at 8.10 and finishes at 13.40. But in my opinion it must start at 9.00 and finish at about 15.00.
Roberta

Dear Heather,
I want to write you to talk about the rights of children. I think that rights are a way to protect and defend children. My favourite rights are the rights to have a family, the right to have education, the right to be loved. What are your favourite rights? Are your rights respected?
Bye bye, See you soon
Luca

Dear friends,
Nowadays children have got lots of rights at school. In fact, we are usually respected by our teachers. They listen to us, they try to understand our problems and so on. I feel at ease at school, but sometimes school friends don't respect our rights and space.

Dear friends,
I think it is right if parents decide the time I have to be back home because they could worry if we don't come back within a certain time . They usually want to protect us from dangers of every kind. I decide with my parents about the TV programs I can watch. When we want to watch a film, the first thing they do is to read something about it in the newspaper: whether it is a good film or not, if it isn't too violent or coarse, if the plot is interesting. In order to grow up healthy, in our country it is compulsory to do vaccinations: I think it is a good way to fight some kinds of illnesses. A right diet too is very important for our growth: we can't be in good health if we don't get a well balanced diet with all we need to grow up. I sometimes happen to hear about problems of young girls or boys, connected with diet, for example bulemia and anorexy.
Bye Bye
Luca

Hi friends,
In my family, my parents decide what time I must go home, they also decide when I eat, the films I can I see. In my country some vaccination are compulsory to protect us from illnesses. My family allows me to go out with friends at night Only when I'm on holiday, because the day after I don't go to school.
See you soon
Andrea

Hi friends
We are Mario and Rimaiz. We like school because we learn studying and staying with others, and because we like our teachers. We think school is beautiful because we have good relationship with both adults and children. Our teachers sometimes don't listen to us, for example when we raise our hands during their explanations. In our school we don't have space enough to play and relax during the break-time. On Saturday we don't go to school and we like it: we think that after a week of work we have the right to stay at home and spend our time with our families.
Bye , Bye Mario and Rimaiz

Last summer in evening I used going out riding bike. My parents required me to come home very soon. When I watch a film not good for me, my parents want me to change program or turnoff television. If I don't do that they scold me. In my family often we talk about to programs good and bad for boys. In the world many persons die because they are not usually vaccinated against serious illnesses and now there are many association which try to do something to solve this problem.

Hello! We are Chiara and Valeria. I think my rights at school are: to be listened and respected by the teachers, to have a break, go to the toilette when we need it, and to express our opinions. We think it isn't good when our teachers shout.
Bye Valeria and Chiara

Hi friends ,
We are Manuela and Elisa. We like the school because we like studying. At school there are some teachers that don't respect our rights. The teachers we like best are the teacher of art and music because they are the best ones. Parents in our school can visit the classrooms where we study. At Saturday we don't go to school. The hour in the day when we are at school are six. Every one are about fifty-five minutes. We go home at forty to one. When do you go home?

Bye bye Manuela and Elisa

Response from Ashely at Delmar
Hi, I think we should have rights at school. We get off of school at 3:00.We get off on Saturday and Sunday. Do you get off school on Sunday? I don't really have anything to say about rights because I think we have good enough rights at my school. Your new friend,
Ashley Roberts
