What Do I Have To Do To Make The World A Better
Place?
You have made new friends among the students in your global classroom.
What do you have to do now to keep in touch with them? What do you have to
do to nurture that friendship and make it grow?
From Kirstin at L.M. Dent Elementary School
I have made many friends through my global classroom. A lot of my new
friends can relate to some of my personal experiences and some of the
activities I love. To make my friendships grow I must be nice and be
myself. For example, if one of my friends
if I liked iceskating and I said yes because that was what she/he wanted
to hear, that wouldn't be being myself. Being a part of the "Who Am I"
program has really benefited me by giving me the chance to talk and
relate to other children my age and they gave me new ideas of how to make
the world a better place. I have enjoyed the program.
From Robin at L.M. Dent Elementary School
I think that to keep in touch with these friends we could talk online and
write to each other. We could make our friendship better by telling each
other our personal things. I think that if we do this we can become good
fiends like if we were even next door neighbors. If we keep this up we
could become best friends. Also one day if he/she moves around here they
would have a friend.
From Kaitlin
I have made new friends in my global classroom. I can do a few things to
keep in touch with him/her. For example, talking to them on the phone,or
e-mailing. If I wanted to make our friendship grow,I would keep
communicating them. We should also tell each other what's going on in
life. From my personal ideas, I wouldn't want our friendship to stop. That
is how I can make my friendship grow.
Our well being can be protected and destroyed by humans. Who is
responsible for protecting our future?
From Katie at L.M. Dent Elementary School
I think that only you can be responsible for protecting our future. I
think this because you are the only one responsible for your actions. For
example,if I wanted a new bike and my mom would say only if your good and
if I acted bad I shouldn't take it out on someone else because I did what
I did myself. That's an example of being responsible for your own actions.
Another example of being responsible for your own actions is when I wanted
my puppy and my mom said only if you act right. I took responsibility for
my own actions and did well and got my puppy. I have heard this figure of
speech from my mom and teachers. You should always treat people and things
the way you want to be treated.
Friends and family are a very important part of our life. How do you
compare a peaceful family life to a peaceful community life? What elements
are the common denominator in rivalry between brothers and sisters,
rivalry between families and rivalry between countries? How can this be
changed?
From Daniel at L.M. Dent Elementary School
I can compare a peaceful community to a peaceful family, because a
community is like a family, because families can get in fights and so can
communities. For example, some people could want to build houses somwhere
that the rest of the community won't like. An
example in a family is people might be decorating and some people in the
family wouldn't like it there. The common rivalry between brothers and
sisters are if they're having a competition to see whose better at
something someone usually gets hurt, someone usually
gets in an arguement, and someone probably starts a fight. The common
rivalry between families are they usually sue each other or start fights.
The common rivalry between countries are they usually want someone's land
or the're jealous of someone's amount
of money. This can be changed by donating things to each other, help them
when they need help and don't get into fights.
Do you have any endangered animals in your country? Who is responsible for
protecting them? What are you doing to protect them?
From Hannah at L.M. Dent Elementary School
I don't think we have many severely endangered animals in the United
States. I do know there are some species that are close to extinction,
though. The California condor is one of them. I read there are only
about 30-50 of them left in the world! I think we are responsible for
preserving these giant birds. We need to give back their habitat. A lot
of these birds' deaths have nothing whatsoever to do with us. Some of
their deaths are caused by their enourmous wings. Each of the 2 wings
touches one side of a power line and poof, just like that, dead,
electrocuted.alot of people are trying to do something about this
situation. There are some places where people keep California condors,
feed them, and breed them. I think these places are good things. I'm not
really doing anything to help keep them safe and sound, but I guess I'm
not really doing anything to get them exctinct, either. I could send
money to the organization that funds for the California condor. I could
write a letter to the president (which I already have done) and ask him to
do something for this endangered species. I could do more but these 2 I
think are enough for a 10 year old. I hope the California condor doesn't
get extinct.
