"What Do I Want To Be When I'm Older?" Responses to Questions 1 - 6 from Lettie Marshall Dent Elementary, Maryland Question 1: Favorite Subjects / Careers
My favorite subject at school is science. I am good at gymnastics, school
work and
soccer. Some careers need math and science, such as, doctors, nurses,
chemists, engineer and astronomers. For people who are good in languages
and literature, I
would recommend careers as a writer, translator, teacher, poet,
songwriter, or a librarian.
My favorite subject in school is Math. I am good at soccer. A career
that would need a lot of science is a scientist. A scientist would need
to know alot of science, because they need to know about space. A career
that woud need alot of math is a math teacher. A math teacher would need
to know alot of math so they can teach the kids math. Another job
that would need alot of math is a waiter or waitress. A waiter or waitress
would need to know alot of math so they can work the cash register. A job
for a person that is good with literature and languages is a book writer.
A book writer needs to be good at literature and language so they cna
write a book that makes sense.
In school my favorite subject is reading. I like reading because you learn
about new things and you can write down what you think. I think I am
pretty good in science, but I have trouble with long division in math. I
dont really do good in sports, but for languages I know a little spanish.
I think jobs like astronauts and doctors require a lot of science and
math. I would recommend an author for a person who excells at a writing
positon and language arts. I would like to be a writer myself.
My favorite subject is Science. I am good at science and sports. An
accountant would be good for a person that likes math. A scientist would
be good for people that likes science. An acountant needs to know math
bacause they deal with alot of numbers and
addition and stuff like that.A scientist needs science because scientist's
learn and use alot about science. A good career for a person that knows
alot of language arts would be a teacher because, that person could share
all the language arts that they know. That is
what I think about math science and, language arts.
Question 2: Talent / Hardwork and Practice in Careers
Yes, hard work and practice must be applied to other occupation. For
example, you must
work very hard to become a mechanic and you have to practice to be in the
nav. Practicing and hard work don't just apply to sports. An astronaut
has to practice long and hard to succeed and travel to other planets.
They have to know all the controls in the rocket, be good in math so they
can determine when and where to go and how hot or cold it should be. A
doctor has to practice and be sure they give the right medicine.
Sometimes they're responsible for others loves. You must work very hard
to be good at any occupation.
I really like sports. Yes, hard work and practice coul be applied to
every career there is
including an astronaut or a doctor too. i am writing his because you
arent' going to be good at something without hard work and practice.
Question 3: Some people are Realistic (the doers), Conventional (the organizers), Investigative (the thinkers), Social (the helpers), Enterprising (the persuaders), Artistic (the creators).
I think that investigative (the thinkers) and social (the helpers) fits my
class' personality.A famous person that could be classified under
realistic is someone like a singer because they don't just sit around
saying they're going to sing a song, but they actually get up and sing. I
think a conventional person is a director because they have to organize
the scripts, costumes, and things like that. I think an investigative job
is someone that is very smart
because they would need to think about things a lot to be able to figure
out different things. I think social person because she helps a lot of
people. I think that an enterprising job is a newspaper writer because
they have to persuade people to put their articles in the
news.
I am an Artistic Creator and a Social Helper. I think the ones lited here
are the only ones
that fit my personality. When I say creative, I mean I can think of some
good ideas. When I say a helper, I mean that if someone asks for help, I
can help them right away.m
Question 4: Long travel / Bad Weather and Impact on Community
Traveling a long way to school in bad weather can have a bad effect on the
community because the children are tired by the time they get there and
they can't learn very well. If the weather is bad they will not go. This
effects the community because if the kids and people don't learn they will
have no skills to make the community better. Schools can be
set up in the community so they don't have to travel a long way.
Question 5: Parents / Family Influence on Careers
The favorite career in my family is a paraprofessional or a teacher. There
are two of them
in my family, my Grandma and my mom. No, I don't know of another family
that has more than one teacher. Some parents might influence their
children to work in a family job or career. I am not sure how they would
influence their child. Yes, a parent can influence
their child into not pursuing a job. Also they can influence their child
by telling them the good things and the bad things about that job.
The favorite job in my family is the police officer. I think I have at
least 6 in my family.
I do not know anybody that has the same job in their family. I think the
parents can influnce their kids to do that job. I think they can do that
by encouragement and telling them the history of that job. I think that
because if the job was a dangerous job the parent
would not want their kid to do that job. That is why I think the parents
can change their minds.
Question 6: Find among your friends a 'lone wolf' and a 'member of the pack'.
The type "lone wolf" in my opinion would work best for all of them. See,
I myself am a "lone wolf" I don't like to be a "member of the pack".
