Kirsten Harlung. When she was five years old, she had a little two-wheeled bike. Someone carried her bike up on a roof, then she drove down the roof and hit her head on the tiles. When they (her and her brother) went out to buy clothes, she wanted to buy with my grandfather, because when they were out buying clothes with my grandmother, they wasn’t allowed to decide for themselves.

The confirmation

Her confirmation dress was a long white dress, with elbow-long sleeves, a ribbon to tie around her stomach and a pair of high-heeled shoes. Her second-day-clothes was a roll collar blouse, a checked jacket, black trousers and a pair of cowboy-like shoes.

My dad

My mom met my dad, because they had some common friends. One of the friends invited both my mom and dad, and that’s how my mom and dad met.

Inge

First they got my big sister Inge. She is named after af goddess in the northern mythology. Inge is 14, her birthday is on the 17/3, then she’s 15.

Grandmother.

My grandmother was born the 2/12 1941 in Aarhus. her dad died already when she was 2 years old. My grandmother’s mother’s name was Helga. I don’t really know what her father’s name was. They got 5 children, Hans, Ester, Ellen, Jørgen, and then my grandmother Lillian.

My grandmother lived as a child in Aarhus in a big house with a lot of apartments. The apartment wasn’t so big, but big enough for them. They didn’t earn so much money, so everybody had to help at home. They got 5 oere in pocket money a week, which would be about 0,7 cent today. Beside that they helped at home, they also went to school and played with they’re friends.

An ordinary day: First they got up in the morning and ate a little breakfast. Then her mother went to work as a cleaning woman in a bakery. When she was gone, the daily work began. They switched duties, every week. If they finished quickly, they could run down to a friend, but they were not allowed to go more than two blocks away. They go to school 12 o’clock and come home at 4 o’clock AM. If they had gotten permission, they could go with friend home till 6 o’clock AM, because then they’re mom would be home. They went to bed at 8 o’clock AM.

My grandmother’s confirmation was on the 26/4 1955. In 1959 she get married to my grandfather, Jens. But today they are divorced. In 1960 she got her first child, who is my mother. Later she got my two uncles, Henning and Per. Today my grandmother is 57 years old and works as a nursing aide in Caritas in Skejby.

I wan’t to tell my grandmother and grandfather. My grandmother’s name is Kirsten Bilde Hansen, and my grandfather is named Jørgen Bilde Hansen. My grandmother is 67 and my grandfather is 63. My grandmother and grandfather have three children, my dad and my two aunts Helle and Hanne. My grandmother and grandfather have a farm with a lot of animals: Cows, horses, pigs, cats, hens, ducks, fish, gooses, a dog, roe deers, foxes, turkeys, pheasants and peacocks. They have a big nature reserve with fields and forests. It’s a lovely place to be, and they are very, very, very kind. One day when I was over there, a pony that was called Molly gave birth to a foal, that we called Ugespring. Me and my grandmother had gone in to the stable to talk with the foal, But suddenly it got shy and wouldn’t talk. It hid itself behind Molly and from that day on it was always shy.

See you Rune Etzerodt!!!!!

What a lovely story, Rune.

I thought I'd just explain a couple of things for our friends who aren't in Europe and might not know. Kiel is in Germany and Copenhagen is in Denmark. In the old days if you studied to be a doctor in one country you had to take another exam if you wanted to work in another country. Nowadays we don't have to do that in Europe any more;)

Another word for "infantile paralysis" is polio. This used to be a very serious disease which attacked the muscles in your legs and made it hard for you to walk. Thanks to people like Rune's great-grandfather we are all vaccinated against it these days;)

best wishes,

Hi, my name is Rasmus Bach Fuursted. I want to tell about my grandfather. My grandfather’s name was Holger and my grandmother’s name was Erna. They got three children, my dad (Gert), my dad’s big brother (Ole) and my dad’s little sister (Gitte).

There are two in the family (my great-grandfather and great-grandmother) who have managed to get 7 children, then they got children and the children got children etc. There has been borned 40-50 people with my dad’s family and my self. They have always lived in Aarhus. When I was born, I lived in Aarhus, two years later, my mom, dad, big brother and me.

I don’t know anything about my grandfather and grandmother’s wedding, but it ended happily. Now I will try to invent a little story. I think, that at a ball, my grandfather (Holger) saw a lovely lady in the bar (yehaa) and said: “What are you doin’ after this?” and she says: “Nothing.” -Why don’t you come to my house?-OK. And then they had a little fun!!!! And some years later they got married. But already about 20 years later my grandfather gets a blood clot. The doctors got it away without problems. But a couple of years later he gets another one. Again the doctors gets it away, without problems. But again he gets a blood clot, and this time the doctors can’t get it away, so hedies. Rasmus

My grandmother, Edith is 69 years old. She is born in 1929 on Fyn in Korinth. My grandmother comes out of a family of 5 as the only girl. When she was a little girl and went to school, she wore wooden shoes and pinafore. When the war came to Denmark she was 18 years. My grandmother have been working as a cleaning woman at a school. She lived in Trige. My grandmother got 7 children. Their house burned when she was 5 years old. In reference to money, there weren’t a problem, but they were not millionaires.

Once she buyed a box of apples to the children for Christmas. She thought that they should have something special, but my grandfather didn’t think so. Those money were going to pay a bill. She have been living in Saelling since 1985, and then she was alone since 1995, and she still lives there.

Thank you! Thank you!

Those were beautiful stories about your (great-great) grandparents!

Here's a picture of my grandfather when he started work right at the beginning of this century.
