Making Our World Better

The Steps

All "dream" lessons have the same structure, or steps:

Art by Ivan F. (11), Italy , 2003

  1. Registration: Students present themselves, and their dreams about their future. Optionally, accompanied by a photos, or artistic illustrations. (Example). Lists of desired future dreams presented by selected quotes made by peers around the world, with a prompt for the individual student to have its name added to the list, optionally accompanied by a photo, or an artistic illustration. (Example)
  2. Who am I?: Each student creates a personal "homepage", describing themselves, their dream(s) for a better world, reasons for their dream, and whatever might contribute to help them get connected to others sharing their dream(s). (Description - Note: a new infrastructure for KidPages is being developed, and may be used later instead of the platform presented here.)
  3. This is my dream: Students share dreams, ideas, and information about their dreams for a better world in an appropriate KidCom room.
    • As KidCom discussion items, by posting documents, or by making comments to what others suggest

    • Links to useful external web resources are posted in the room's document session, or by submitting it using the web form.

  4. Discussion to understand: Organized debates about student-determined environmental protection agendas.
    • Challenge your students to invite peers to Kidcom discussion meetings. "Chat about xxx in the KidCom Protect Our Nature room, Thursday September 19, at 14:00 GMT." Challenge selected students to act as debate moderators (Example)

    • Ask your students to write and publish summaries in the room after the meeting

    • Challenge (selected?) students to interview peers and publish articles in the room about particularly interesting views (also in the Journalist/Writer room for wider dissemination)

    • Challenge your students to contribute to the dream track's web exhibitions

  5. Making plans to change the world
    • Research: Hunt for web resources that may be helpful for those wanting any given dream for the future, and add them to the common resource list. (Example)

    • Debate and share ideas about needed steps to promote their dream for a better world. (Example)

    • Exhibit your student contributions in KidSpace or the KidCom room

  6. Action
