When
you retrive a page to translate from the Internet, you must save it on your
disk so that web addresses (URLs) and embedded image addresses are not
destroyed in the process. Follow
this guideline carefully, and everything should work out fine:
-
Open the desired web page in Internet Explorer.
Example:
http://www.kidlink.org/english/general/overview.html
-
Click at File, then Save as. A
window to help you save the page will open.
-
Use the Save in: to select a place on
your disk to save the file.
You may find it practical to save Kidlink pages
in a directory using the same name as the original on your disk. For example,
ystore
http://www.kidlink.org/english/general/overview.html
at C:\DEUTSCH\GENERAL when translating into German.
-
In the File name: box, use the same file
name as the source document.
In the example above, this name would be overview.html
-
Go to the File
type:, box and select the setting "Web Page,
HTML only (*.htm, *,html)".
This is very
important! If you select "Web page complete
(*.htm, *,html)", then Internet Explorer
will change the contents of the links
on your web page. The effect will be that links to images on your web page
will be changed to point to a directory on your harddisk with another
name!
Select
"Web Page, HTML only (*.htm,
*,html)"!
-
Go to Encoding:, and change the coding
to match your language's character set special requirements, if any. (You
may do it later, but it may also be practical to do it now.)
-
Congratulations! You are ready to edit the page
using your favorite web page editor. If you are using FrontPage, just click
at the FrontPage icon to go.
