Proofreader Guidelines

Guidelines for translators

What we need to check:
On English language web pages, that:
  • appropriate and grammatically correct language is being used
  • all images are visible (you see no error messages like: )
  • the top menu and footer (=bottom of page) match the templates for the current web directory
  • the page has an appropriate TITLE and DESCRIPTION
  • the Google Analytics code exists in the proper place in the html of the page, and is unbroken

On pages in other languages, that: .

  • That contents of translations match the current English language source page
  • appropriate and grammatically correct language is being used
  • all images are visible (you see no error messages like: )
  • the top menu and footer (=bottom of page) match the templates for the current web directory
  • the translation of the web page's TITLE and DESCRIPTION show correctly in browsers (non-Latin characters sometimes a challenge).
  • the Google Analytics code exists in the proper place in the html of the page, and is unbroken
  • the layout of the translated page equals the English language source (character sizes, table properties, etc.)
  • the translator is recognized in the web page's footer

How to deliver proof-read web pages
The best would be if you could send us your corrections as .html, though there are some options.

English source text: Its free educational programs motivate learning by helping teachers relate local curriculum guidelines to students' personal interests and goals. Kidlink is open for all children and youth in any country through the age of 15, and students at school through secondary school. Most users are between 10 - 15 years of age. Since the start in 1990, used by children from 174 countries.
My translation: Lærere relaterer skolens innhold til elevenes personlige mål gjennom Kidlink's gratis læringsprogrammer for å motivere dem til å lære. Programmene er for barn til og med 15 år og skolelever til og med videregående skole. Mesteparten av brukerne er mellom 10 - 15. Barn fra 174 land deltatt siden 1990.

My translation: Title: Introduksjon til Kidlink - kort versjon
Description: Ikke-kommersiell, brukereiet organisasjon som hjelper barn med å skjerpe sine livsmestringsegenskaper.

Warn us about incorrect character encoding (resulting in a language not showing correctly in your browser), outdated formats (fonts and illustrations differ from the English language page), missing images, and dead links. Just describe these incidents in a mail.
