Proofreading

How To Send Us Your Translations

Art by Adam from USA , 1996

Best is to send us your corrections as .html (web page format). Consider writing your reports in Composer (free), FrontPage, or Dreamweaver (most translators use one of these web editors). Open the proofreading form into your web editor, and get going.

While translators must always deliver their translations as .html, proofreaders finding .html difficult for now have these options:

Microsoft Word.
If the document you are proofreading needs to be changed, do as follows:

  1. Load the proofreading form into Word: File | Open | File name: http://www.kidlink.org/english/society/jobs/proofrtf.rtf
and save it on your local disk.

  2. Open the translated web page to be changed in your file browser.

    1. Mark all (click Edit | Mark all)

    2. Copy and paste the page into another blank Word document.

    3. Copy and paste text and links into the proofreading form as needed without loosing links and formatting information.

  3. Open the English language version of the web page to be changed in your file browser. and handle it as described in item 2 above.

  4. Write your proofreading report, and save the document as file type .RTF (Rich text) when finished.

  5. Send your RTF report to us as an e-mail attachment.

Advantage: We may copy non-Latin characters, links and formatting information directly over to the web page to be posted.

Write (also called WordPad) is installed on most Microsoft computers. It handles most non-Latin characters well. Weaknesses: All URLs (hyperlinks) and formatting information will usually be lost.

  1. Click Start | Run | type Write in the box, then press Enter to start the program.
  2. Save your translation as file type .rtf (Rich text format), and send it to us as an email attachment.

If your language is written in Latin characters with no special characters, you may send us your proofs as plain text in an ordinary e-mail. This options gives us most work.
