Finding Translated Pages
The Link Check Method

Sasha (10), Russia

"How do I know what links to correct, so that people will get to my Icelandic translations if available?" asked Eygló in Iceland. Here's how to do it when translating into Icelandic:
  1. Edit the html code ("source") of your translated web page so that all web addresses containing the string "/english/general/" becomes "http://www.kidlink.org/islenska/general/" using search-replace.
  2. If your web editor lets you check links and correct wrong web addresses on the fly, open the edited page in your web editor, and click "Check links." If your web editor cannot check links, consider using AOLpress.

Important: If your language is written using non-Latin characters, correct the link using the web editor you have used for the translation. Then, click "Next" to let AOLpress continue checking. Do not to save the web page using AOLpress!

If non-Latin characters are not used in your language, you may edit the address in the Check links' "Link To Page:" window so that it becomes "/english/general/k/index.html". Click at the "Change" button to make the correction.

  3. AOLpress will immediately continue checking for other errors.
  4. When all links are corrected, remove all link and image references to "http://www.kidlink.org" in the source code (not in the text) in order to make all links relative.
  5. Your links should be OK to post now.
