Kidforum-Kids is the ideal area to work on what is important to you! Make sure you have joined the KIDFORUM-KIDS and KIDFORUM-COORD mailing lists. Student's ideas and discussion as well as work is via the KIDFORUM-KIDS list while adults use the COORD group.
When designing your work these hints may be useful:
What exactly do you want to achieve? What do you want to learn? Try to be specific.
Do you want to include any adults or designated schools as mentors/experts - look on the resources page.
Try to involve different areas of the curriculum - English (almost everything is anyway), Science (environmental and otherwise), the Arts (don't forget photography and music). However don't try to crowd too much in either. Look at the Kidlink Curriculum Pages.
Set time limits - possibly a month is long enough for one topic. Start planning and discussing your ideas on the list well before you would like to start work - a month at least.
Decide who is going to have the responsibility for management and coordination at your school.
At the end write a concluding report - if this is in the form of webpages so much the better.
Write suggestions to the list for others to follow.
What topics are appropriate?
As long as it follows the Kidlink Guidlines (GET KIDLINK POLICIES) almost any topics are appropriate.
Some suggestions are:
* topics of environmental importance - e.g. Global Warming, Endangered Species
* current affairs - e.g. the Winter Olympics
* hobbies and interests
* really anything which is worth researching and discussing. can be turned into something worthwhile for KIDFORUM-KIDS. You may already be 'expert' in something another school or group would like to discuss.
