 Project Overview

Preamble

The cultural aspects of every nation - which reflects its identity and makes it different from others - can be portrayed by means of personalities that have influenced the national consciousness and contributed to the settlement of the history associated to every country as well as have made effective a better world.

Those individuals whose fascinating lives imprinted their marks in the destiny and culture of their nations are nowadays remembered by their ideas, ideals and accomplishments - and the project My Fellows intends to portray them in a so-called virtual book related to every nation and based on the contributions of students that participate in the KidForum.

The outstanding individuals of every country whose lives contributed to meet the expectations to the students' question " How do I want the world to be better when I grow up? " included in the Response, will certainly be portrayed in the virtual book of their nations, to be implemented by the Kidlink community and named My Fellows.

The complete set of these books, every one outlining the different aspects among the cultures, calls for the universality of the human being, taking into consideration the diversity and the recognition of the man's rights and freedom that transcend any distinction and separation among the nations and also emphasizing their similarities.

Based on these concepts, the project My Fellows consists of a multicultural experience that is a channel of opportunities to understand and to accept the existing cultural differences internally as well as externally of every country. Moreover, they make possible that students around the world share their knowledge and perceptions of such an experience where exchange and intercommunication are present.

Objective

The project My Fellows has the objective of developing a multicultural experience by means of the implementation of virtual books through the Kidlink community that include portrayals and descriptions about distinguished individuals spread throughout the several areas of activity and that are real representatives of the culture of the country.

Project Development

The project My Fellows will be developed according to a group participation approach and beginning with the reflection made by the students ( if possible together with their teachers ) about the answers to the Kidlink question: How do I want the world to be better when I grow up?.

The project My Fellows will have the participation of a co-moderator in every country so that the children can participate using their local language.

As far as the project is concluded, the www Kidlink team will make the contents available within a format of a book. Afterwards, with the Tranteam's support, all projects will be translated to the languages of all participating countries.

The project My Fellows will have the following breakdown:  

• Students will make an analysis of their answer to the Kidlink question " How do I want the world to be better when I grow up?" after a consult to the Response mailing list. Then, they will be able to expand and to modify their answer.

• Every student after reflecting about his answers, shall reply the question " Which individuals in my country have contributed to the world to be better?". If the project is being developed in a school, the student should undertake a class discussion in order to look for a consensus but respecting the dissension. The limiting criteria for this selection is that only deceased individuals can be included in the book.

• Every student or group of students shall write a synthesis about the lives of the selected individuals, with a maximum of five lines, and shall include an illustration of the individuals. The report of every student or group of students will be identified by his (their) name(s).

• The co-moderators of every country, together with the teachers, will make a classification according to the activity areas of the selected individuals, with the aim of establishing the book index e.g. poets, entrepreneurs, sportsmen, artists and so forth. In case of several references to the same individual, all of them must be considered and within each activity a chronological sequence must be followed.

• The book presentation will have the participation of the group involved in a specific text, where every all students can complement the description initiated by their mates. Later on, the co-moderator of every country will make a revision and organize the text.

• The book cover will be entitled My Fellow followed by the nationality (for example: My Fellow Brazilians), showing an illustration or a set of illustrations arranged by the children.

 
Briefly, the virtual book My Fellows for every country will include:
 

• Cover with a title and an illustration made by the students,
• Presentation to be written by the students,
• Index for the activity areas of the selected individuals, organized by the teachers in association with the co-moderator,
• Presentation with text and illustrations of the individuals that in the students' opinion contributed to the world to be better.

Implementation

The phases for the implementation of the project My Fellows are as follows:

• Disclosure of the project description,
• Guidelines to the teachers and co-moderators of every country,
• Release of the welcome letter for the participants,
• Set up the development phases and the project schedule,
• Accomplishment of the project,
• Work out the final report of the project.
