Your Mailing List's
Welcome Message

Art by Diego from Peru

Whenever new people subscribe to (join) your new mailing list, they will receive a message wishing them welcome. Write this message properly in your language. Here's a sample text for use when starting a Kidleader as food for thoughts. You must therefore rewrite it completely!

Dear KIDLINKer,

Welcome to Kidleader-xxxx - a forum for teachers, coordinators, parents, and others interested in Kidlink!

Kidleader-xxxx is intended as a friendly and informal meeting place place where we can get to know each other better and help each other. Its purpose is wide, and may include:

  • Exchange of Kidlink-related curriculum ideas between participating schools
  • Networking with peers on a personal level
  • Ask for help
  • Requests for hello messages to support local demonstrations
  • Teacher introductions

This is not a general discussion list for educators. It's purpose is restricted to the support of the Kidlink goal of getting children involved in a global dialog. If you are not interested in Kidlink, please sign off now.

For more information about Kidleader-xxxx, please visit our Web page at http://www.kidlink.org/xxxx/index.html. General information about Kidlink and how to get started is provided at this web page: http://www.kidlink.org/xxxx/general/index.html

How to signoff from Kidleader-xxxx
------------------------------------------------
Send a message to listserv@listserv.nodak.edu containing the following command in the TEXT portion of your mail:

signoff kidleader-xxxx

If you fail, send a message to listmgr@kidlink.org for help. Please write this message in English.

What kinds of messages are not appropriate?
Only announcements about Kidlink activities are appropriate. We suggest that Kidlinkers interested in receiving announcements of general interest to educators should subscribe to one of the many other lists elsewhere that carry them.

Messages cross-posted from other lists are not appropriate, even from other Kidlink lists. Personal messages are also not appropriate. If your answer to someone is not something that would be of general interest to interest to other members of the list, send it directly to that person's email address and NOT to the whole Kidleader-xxxx list.

What else is important?
Since some systems don't show the original sender of messages (it just says "From: Kidleader-xxxx"), it is essential for everyone to sign all their messages at the end with BOTH their name and their email address.

When you answer a message, don't quote more than the minimum necessary to make your message clear. Email is expensive for many of the people KIDLINK is trying hardest to reach. Be considerate of them.

Enjoy!

Looking forward to your involvement in KIDLINK!

Thanks,

Kidleader-xxxx management.

You may add an English language translation of the section about how to signoff to people who subscribed to the list expecting it to be in a language they could understand.

The INDEX-H text

INDEX-H is a short text which is automatically appended to all mails sent to subscribers who are using the Listserv Index option.

Translate this text:

To retrieve individual messages or get additional help, send email to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.NODAK.EDU with commands like these as the message TEXT:

GETPOST KIDLEADER-xxxx 3 5 7 (to get messages numbered 3, 5, and 7)
GET KIDLINK.INDXHP (to get index help file)

Send the translated text to Kidlink's Mailing List Manager (listmgr@kidlink.org).

That's all ! Now, send your application for the new Kidleader list.
