One person must assume responsibility for the
new list.
-
Recruit helpers, so that work can be distributed
among several persons. You should recruit at least two helpers. Try to find
some living in other countries. A broad geographical distribution of helpers
may help bring in participants from more parts of the world.
| As is human nature, people tends to float
in and out of our groups of volunteers. One crucial piece of advice is therefore
to recruit more helpers than you need - in case a few drop out. Attrition
is inevitable. |
-
Prepare the text of a
welcome message in your language
that will be automatically sent to all people joining your new list.
-
Translate the text sent to subscribers who are
using the Listserv
Index option.
-
Draft an invitation to the new mailing list that
can be distributed across
Kidlink once it is ready to be opened. Write the invitation
in your language - with a short summary in English at the beginning. Send
to your language area's manager to be forwarded to
the Kidlink announcement list.
-
Create a web page telling about the mailing list,
its purpose, how to become a member, and anything else you think is appropriate.
See the hints for opening a Kidleader
list for ideas, and our
guidelines for making web
pages.
