Making A Redirection File

Art by Páll Indriðason (8. bekkur 2), Iceland

When you delete a page, always replace it with a redirect page. A redirect page is a web page that only contains commands like those in the example below. The element in red after url= tells where visitors are to be taken:
<HTML><HEAD>
<META http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=
http://www.kidlink.org/index.html">
<TITLE>This page has been moved..</TITLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY></BODY></HTML>

If you don't know where to redirect those trying to access the page, redirect them to a logical Kidlink portal, or simply to /index.html as in the example above.

When you move a page to another directory, do not delete the old directory. Replace the old page by a redirect page.

Example: The page at /portuguese/brasil/bv/publicacoes.htm was moved to /portuguese/brasil/publicacoes.htm . Include url=/portuguese/brasil/publicacoes.htm"> in the publicaoes.htm file to deal with redirection.

Important : Our pages are developed on a web development computer, then shipped to www.kidlink.org. To delete a page at www.kidlink.org, you must either post a redirect page or a blank page to our web development computer!
