In my opinion the people move because don’t work. The
people Albanians move because don’t work but because
there is the war. If I could choose my favorite environment
for living I shall move to Hawaii.
Matteo from Italy , 2001

If your ancestors moved to another country, what sacrifices or hardships might they have made in order to move? Why are people leaving a country for another? Where would you like to live if you had a choice? When families move to another country is it difficult to keep their national identity? Are students coming for other countries being accepted by the other students? Do you feel that your culture is changing or losing its identity because it is assimilating elements from other cultures?
  • The people usually move to get a better job and to have a better future. My father comes from Basilicata, from the south of Italy, and my mother comes from Veneto, in the north Italy. They found a lot of difficulties when they left their families. My father arrived here in 1966, my mother arrived in 1963. I have been to my mother's and my father's village. My father's parents live in Basilicata. Every summer I go on holiday to my father's village, Spinoso. It's very small village. I stay there about a month and I usually go to the beach where I meet friends. Daniela from Italy , 2001 (more...)
  • For me, when the people move nd leave their houses, thy are sad. Many of my relatives moved but now they are happy to stay near me and my family. My grandparents lived in Veneto and, about 10 years ago, they moved to Muggiò. I'd love to move to Sicilia or Sardegna because the climate is very hot and because the sea and the beaches are very very beautiful. BYE BYE Manuela 2° B, 12, Mmuggiò 2001
  • Interesting background reading:

"This picture was taken by my father in our house in Agdam City of Azerbaijan . I was 2 years old then. Three years later I and my family left Agdam as refugees running from Armenian soldiers.." Samir from Azerbaijan
