Discussion about: The right to be me
Do you feel that people accept you for who you are? Do kids at school respect
your space and right to be yourself? Do kids make fun of kids who are
"different?" Are there some kids that you dislike so much that you think they
shouldn't be around you? Is that right? Do you make life miserable for other
kids? Do you have a right to do that?

What others think and say..

  • I'm afraid that not everyone respect the right every person has to be himself. So many people criticise others in negative way, I think it's unfair. Everyone should be able to be himself as he wants to be. Where I live, kids do not always respect the space and right people have to be themselves. Kids who are a little diffrent from others are judged, and if they don't have friends before, it's hard to fit in the group. I don't like when people are judged by one before one gets to know the persons he his judgin. I'm afraid I do it myself sometime, but I try not to and to be openminded. I think people should think about this, bacause as long as a person respect others' rights, he or she has a right to be himself, like he wants to be. Lilja from Iceland , 2001
  • The little emblem on top represents my middle school class ring in which reminds me of the days of immature and being free willed. It also reminds me of the friends I left behind and those of which I no longer talk to. My Cd player which is below my ring shows that music plays an important role in my life. I listen to it almost everyday except for in school. Music also plays an important role in the way I express myself. Underneath that is my cell phone in which I use constantly to get a hold of my family while I am busy or a way for awhile.
  • I like to be me, I like to laught and have fun. I like my rights too. In Barcelona we have rights and duties. I have right to freedom. I can go to school, I can eat and drink tasty things, I can go to the cinemas, I can play, I can practice sport, I can live in a house, I can sleep what I need, and I can be with my family, I can go to hospitals, I can go to the doctors... And you? What are your rights? I also have duties. I must study, I must do homwork, I must eat healthy, I must follow the rulers, I must make friend, I must clean my room, I must clean the classroom, I must help my parents, I must respect others, I must behave... And you? What are your duties? Judith from Spain , 2002.
