Language Arts: Writing essays, short stories
to express their ideas.
Idea: "Interview your parents and ask them how your name was given. Who decided and why? What is the meaning of your name and how was your name decided? Do any relatives have your name? What is the history of your name? What is the symbol of your name? Is there an interesting story about your name? What are your parents' feelings about your name?" Fine Arts: Music, dancing to express their feelings. Idea: Go to the Kidlink Response archives. Click on "search for" and add a term such as "favorite singer" or "favorite music." Search for the time span you desire - 2 months? 6 months? a year? Be sure your data is manageable and not too large for the time you can spend on this exercise. Examine the results and make a spreadsheet that shows: name, age, gender, country, favorite singer. More... Computer Literacy/Math: Use the computer as a learning tool for writing, communicating with others on real-time, making research and constructing web pages. You may also use the questions as a resource for teaching how to use Word, etc. Life Skills: Self-awareness; understanding own needs & desires; increasing self-esteem and self-responsibility. Make informed choices (decision making skills; goal setting.)
