Select Meeting Places

KidCom is a special area of collaboration where teachers can bring their students to discuss a large number of careers. Teachers can see what they say, but only your students can "talk" in these rooms.

Each KidCom room offers a discussion area , an area listing common documents, and an area for viewing selected documents.

Example: One of your students wants to become a professional tennis player. You give him/her the following assignment:

  1. Write a paper outlining what he/she plan to do to get the desired profession. Author the paper to be shared with others, and become a basis for discussion.
  2. Join the KidCom Sportsperson room. Review what is there.
  3. Post your paper as a document for discussion ("Add document").
  4. Invite others to discuss the paper at a given date/time.
  5. As a host for the meeting, the student starts by asking all present to review the document, provide comments, questions, and ideas.
  6. All items will remain in the room, so the discussion may continue after the meeting. For example, children who were unable to participate in the meeting can read and make comments later. Tell your student to revisit the room after some days to see if there are new comments.
  7. Ask your student to update the document, and invite to a new discussion about items not covered fully in the first meeting.

It takes planning to make interactive discussion meetings thoughtful and productive. Teachers are invited to use the KidCom Teachers' Lounge list for coordination. Students may use the KidCom room for their desired career for coordination, or the KidCafe room.
