About Project Center structure

Forums:

Hello.

Thank you Pia for your forum email. Before answering I am editing page 9 in https://docs.google.com/present/edit?id=0AYKNlS5w5bB0ZGc5bXo1cnJfMjNkazd... . Please have a look at that page. Many other pages are obsolete so do not spend time on them.

This page explains a little bit about the structure of the web being built up now. As you can see we have two structures, based on kidspace and on drupal. Drupal has become some kind of Teacher Center like in http://www.kidlink.org/kidspace/start.php?HoldNode=27627. There are two logins now but we must of course synchronize the accounts between the systems. I have not been able to achieve that yet (was planned for december 20122). I hope one day to be able to have only only login administered by drupal. But to be able to achieve that, I must learn better how Kidspace works and  I do that cleaning up and making kidspace working better.

You must understand that this is a temporary solution. We have not decided it should be like that. We have only decided that we shall migrate to drupal. What we are doing, is that we now migrate the about and project information pages because this is what we now can migrate. Maybe only in 2013 will kidspace also migrated to drupal. Maybe. In the meantime, it is important that the site is easy to navigate. So, now you see how it can look like in the middle of a migration process. :) Your opinions to make this temporary solution better, are very important!

About the project, I think that one Kidcenter is easier to administer. As Pia mentioned and I suggested back in 12/1, I would like to have one Project Center with this kind of list:

Who Am I?        [eng] [Info] [Work]
Geoquiz          [ita] [Info] [Work]  ( * )
Moon over us     [eng] [Info] [Work]  ( ** )
Landmark games   [eng] [Info]         ( * )
Acrostics        [cat] [Info] [Work]  ( * )

A list that gives button links to information [Info] and to students works [work] and that tells the status of the project, eg (**) for an ongoing project.

About language areas. I think we must frist of all, focus on the  projects and getting a good dialog in them as well as getting the kids together to have off school dialog.  We are to few volunteers to keep up with different Teacher Centers. Even with 1000 volunteers, we will hardly be able to get a good site as it is difficult because of logistic reasons. The Board is responsible for all the content of the site. Having language areas that are translated copies of our about and help pages is not a good strategy as it implies that we must have people checking and updating these. You know how it worked once in a time. Even with Odd being 365 days / 12 months / 7 days / 24 hours at the computer, he was not able to get all general information synchronized. I would like pages like http://www.kidlink.org/kidspace/start.php?HoldNode=26757 to be inactivated.

People are intrested in the projects. If they see that the project is in Catalan, they will maybe not look at that page, but they could be intrested in the concept. We can not translate all projects to all languages. So Google Translate is a discrete solution, if we check with google translate that our Catalan, Italian or Mandarin is well translated to other languages.

If someone is willing to open some kind of information page, I think that it has to be done within the scope of the project. You inform about how to register, giving a link to the english registration pages telling people how to use the Google translate button on the top of all pages.

For people needing help, we have the brilliant solution Pia came with. Open a forum for every project. If it is Acrostic, open a forum for Acrostics and of course the language will be Catalan. Open a forum for Geoquiz and the language will be Italian.

A few more  answers. I think that the mani menu can not have 20+ options. It is better that we have one link only, to Project Center. The Project Center page has to be fixed. I agree that the calendar must be adjusted.

Thank you.

Stellan

I like the look of the new project page.  There is much to offer and it needs to look organized and easy to read.  I hope we attract many more classrooms around the world!  I'll continue to tweet and email information as much as possible.

Looking good, Kidlink!

I think that Pia has created a very useful Project center. But it is important that you all give feedback on her work. i have put in mine into this. But I am not a teacher user like some of you are.
