Participation in the I Have a Dream program will give students an opportunity to practice many skills and concepts in a variety of subject matter areas.

Language Arts/Writing

  1. Writing for different audiences and purposes: to inform, to express personal ideas, to persuade
  2. Communicating ideas clearly
  3. Comparing and contrasting ideas from several sources
  4. Communicating with people from different cultures

Library Science

  1. Searching for information using printed and electronic media
  2. Evaluating reliability of information
  3. Gathering ideas from human sources - peers around the world

Math

  1. Planning for real time interactions across time zones
  2. Using a spreadsheet to manage a budget
  3. Using graphic organizers when planning strategies
  4. Revising dream project timelines
  5. Designing and revising a budget

Other Languages

  1. Developing strategies for overcoming language barriers in global communication
  2. Engaging in conversation with students in languages other than the native tongue
  3. Practicing grammar and syntax in a real world situation
  4. Increasing vocabulary

Social Studies

  1. Identifying and highlighting the unique social and cultural issues of the dream plan
  2. Reaching a global audience with a clearly defined dream plan
  3. Comparing views from different cultures and countries
  4. Identifying goals and values important to the team

Team Management Skills
