| I Have a Dream |
Welcome! Develop a Dream is the first module of Kidlink's I Have a Dream program. Kidlink teachers have created the module and will assist you in effective use of this learning tool for students. You will find many things to discuss and do in each lesson. No one is expected to do all suggested tasks! We give many ideas hoping that everyone can find amongst them suitable ideas for their students. You can also bring your own ideas into the project We hope you find our model a valuable opportunity for enhance learning. Participants in I Have a Dream Participants in I Have a Dream are teams of students/individual children and their adult coaches. While many will enter the program under the guidance and direction of a classroom teacher, others may enter the program as individuals. We encourage these individual participants to invite a coach to support their efforts and to join a team of participants. A coach may be a teacher, parent, community member or an adult Kidlink volunteer. Because we work in an online environment as well as physical locations, coaches do not have to reside in the same location as their teams. It is encouraged and expected that teams will be international in structure and include participants from various age ranges. Teams of participating students may also wish to invite other coaches in addition to their classroom teacher. Adults supporting students in the I Have a Dream program are guides and facilitators and should not do tasks intended for students in the program. Visit the Guidelines For Coaches web page for more information about the role of coaches
Module Description: The "Develop a Dream" module is a part of an overall program called I Have a Dream. In this program participants work collaboratively with global peers in an effort to make a common dream a reality. The first step in this program is Module 1 - "Develop a Dream." In the first lesson of Module 1 participants examine their own personal dreams. They identify one that might be a foundation or base plan for an overall collaborative dream plan effort by a global team of peers. They find out what is going on in the world around them, try to find the needs in their circumstances plus common needs worldwide. They gather information on-line to support why they want to focus on a particular dream as well as interview people both on-line and in their surroundings. Right from the beginning the participants discuss their ideas and thoughts with other participants in the project. Participants can use KidMail or KidCom to contact each other for exchange of information as well as discuss interests and possibilities. They are urged to comment on ideas from other participants about their dream and to support each other by sharing ideas and giving feedback. Working together in this way establishes an opportunity for them to find other people that they might like to collaborate with later on. In lesson 2 of Module 1 participants work on presentation material while preparing to promote their dream which is done in Module 2. In this module they promote their own dream as well as evaluate dreams from others so that they can ultimately combine dreams and work together as a stronger, global team to make their common dreams come true. During Module 1 participants compare notes with others on-line, share ideas and exchange information on how they define their dream and how they plan to promote it. At the same time they may learn how to use Kidlink's multimedia environment called KidSpace. KidSpace can offer the participants a place to "publish" their dream plan as well as to communicate with peers. A whole class can join the same 'dream' project, work in groups or individually on various ideas. Participants entering I Have a Dream as individuals and not part of a class should look for online partners who share the same dream ideas. Participants are reminded that it is better to have people for support if they want a dream to come true. Coaches are encouraged to use their own imagination and ideas within this module. The description is only a guide but other things related to the topic are always welcome. For your help visit the Resources page
Note: To try fit the program within one school year, coaches are urged to use tasks from previous modules to overlap later lesson plans and modules. As module one alone contains many challenges remember to pick what is suitable for your team, plan your work carefully based on the project time line and use tasks from this module in later modules where you find it suitable. | Description | Lesson 1 | Lesson 2 | Curriculum | Resources |
