Whales and Humans

September 1998 - May 1999

The movie "Free Willy"'s star, Keiko, is moving from the waters of the
Pacific back to his home near Iceland September 9, 1998. In recognition of this move, Kidcafe-Islenka Manager, Hilda Torfadottir has developed a project that will be running concurrently on KIDCAFE-Islenka and KIDPROJ!!

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

Whales and Humans begins September 14, and will run through May
1999.

The purpose project is to explore what we know about whales and
their interaction with humans.

This is an interdisciplinary project, focusing not only on the scientific study of whales, but also with study of the society's response to whales, the economics of whale hunting, creative expression
in poetry and art in conjunction with whales. Students will get to
choose from several possible topics to work on.
