The Way My Father And Mother Uses Math
My mother uses math by balancing her check
book and bank acount. Another way my mother uses math is by giving her
patients their fee. She also uses math to pay the bills and when she is
looking at her watch and telling time. She also uses math by seeing how
much time till the train she has to get, comes. Another way is when she
weighs herself. And finally when she takes the temperature when I’m sick
or how cold or hot it is day to day.
My father uses math when he goes in the subway
and when he gives money to the cashier. He also uses math when he makes
purchases. My father also uses math when he gets payed, he makes sure
that he gets the right amount of money. Another way he uses math is by
paying bills. The other way he uses math is by telling time. And
finally he uses math looking at the temperature to see how hot or cold
it is day to day.
By Roni
My father, an author uses math when he counts how many pages and words
he wrote. He thinks about how much money he will spend to publish a book
or to buy something. He uses math when he decides how much money he
should put in or take out of a bank. He uses minus when he gives money
to workers. He uses plus when he earns money. He divides when he tells
workers what they should do. My father also uses math when stores buy
books from him.
My mother, a teacher, uses math when she has to arrange the students’
desks and chairs. She uses math when she checks tests or when she
arranges the time. She uses math when she takes attendance and counts
the lunches. My mother uses math when she bakes or cooks. She uses math
when she helps me do math homework. She uses math when she goes shopping
and does banking.

Math in Careers
How my mom uses math in her career
My mom is an English and a social studies teacher. Even though she
doesn’t teach math, she still uses math. She uses math while grading
papers and taking attendance.
How my dad uses math in his career
My dad is a Real Estate Investor. He uses math by figuring out
his investment returns and he
calculates the income taxes.

Interviewing
Person- Vivian family friend
Job- accountant
Vivian uses numbers every day. She uses numbers to balance the
checkbook, and to calculate the payroll. She uses math to pay the bills
and to figure out how much money she makes every day. Also uses math to
calculate the deposit for the bank. Another thing she does that
includes math is to figure out how much money to charge the customers
when they buy something.
Person-Mom
Job- Broker for real estate and real estate management
My mom uses math when she has to figure out the commission on a sale
transaction, to compare the value of the properties and rent payroll.
She calculates her expenses and comparing it with the income of the
buildings. She balances the check book, deposits check, and pays out the
expenses. In her daily life she uses math when she bakes and cooks, to
measure the ingredients. She uses it to calculate the discounts on the
sales.
Ori
Lisa Taube
Lisa Taube uses math when she cooks because she needs to measure the
ingredients and how much food to make. Another way she uses math is when
she goes shopping. She needs to count the money to pay. She uses math
when she plans her children’s parties by figuring out how many toys and
candies for the party favors and how much food to buy. When she buys new
things for the house she needs to measure to see how whatever she is
getting fits.
She uses math in her volunteer job as chairperson at Great Neck
Community School by making all the committees even and figuring out the
school’s budget for the year.
Peter Taube
Peter Taube is the Chief Financial Officer of a large company. He uses
math for almost everything. Examples of that are figuring out how much
the company made, how much to pay, how much to pay the people who work
for him and what stocks and bonds to pay.
At home he thinks math is important in order to run finances of his
household. For example, he needed math to figure out how much to spend
on the new house he just bought.
