MATH AROUND US

3. Personal Measurements

personal measurement systems from Helena Flats School, Mrs. Bernstein's G/T class in Kalispell, MT

Our system is the Carefree-Wrigley Gum System. We are using standard
measurement. 1 regular stick of wriggleys is 3 inches. 1 regular
Trident gum is 3 centimeters. Four Wrigleys are a foot. Twelve regular
sticks of Wrigley's in one yard. Thirty Trident pieces are also a yard.

Designed by Edwin, Kenny, Alyssa, Mike, Lindsey, Sarah and Sara

Our system is the AA battery system. We worked on length in standard
measurement. 1/2 of a AA battery = one inch. 6 AA batteries = one
foots. 18 AA batteries = one yard.

Created by Andy, Kristina, Daniel, Bob, Derek and Brandon

Our system is length and metric. We used The Ball System and measured
their circumference.
A Spalding basketball, size D3, inflated to weigh one pound = 77 cm
A ball from the ball room at MacDonalds = 14 cm
A pink ball measures 26 cm
A medium bouncy ball = 12.5 cm
A rock ball = 7 1/4 cm
A hacky sack = 16 cm
