![]() KID DAY JOURNALS |
| Project Description: On October 27, 1999, KIDLINK kids from around the world will write a journal, by the hour, of their activities on that day. These journals will be sent to a new list created on KIDPROJ just for Kidlink Day '99 called KIDDAY and may be sent to the list in the native language of the students. Sample Journal: 7:00 Oh... my alarm clock is so loud. It reminds me that a new day is here. I get out of bed and get ready for the school day. I just remembered! We are doing a special activity in Science. I think I will like today. 8:00 I am on the school bus with my friends. Would you believe I left my lunch on the kitchen table? How could I be so dumb? 9:00 Now, it is time for art class. I *love* art! My teacher says I have real talent. I'm making a clay pot for my mom for her birthday. I know she'll love it. and on and on ... for the rest of the day until sleep time. Project Purpose: For students: By sharing activities taking place on the specified day students will be able to see how other students around the world spend their day. They will gain new friends from around the world. For teachers: Teachers will be able to use this activity across many curriculum areas: Writing - Students will jot down quick notes on the hour but will later weave these notes into interesting journal entries. Math - Students can analyze the data in each journal by making graphs and charts.
If this is your first visit, you will need to Join KIDPROJ. Once you have joined, students communicate through email. All KIDLINK Day communication will occur on the KID DAY listserv which you can join by visiting our KIDLINK DAY Registration Page. It explains how to join KIDLINK, register for various mailing lists, and register for the project itself. Time Line: September 30, 1999--Project is posted October 11, 1999 Those teachers who want whole classes to participate may start preparing students for writing the journal. They may choose a day to practice in their own schools. Other teachers in the school might be involved by becoming aware that the students will be pausing on the hour to take notes for their journals (perhaps in their classes). October 27, 1999--A KIDLINK DAY Journals are written--PLEASE put "A KIDLINK DAY" and school name on the Subject line of the e-mail to the KIDPROJ forum kidday@listserv.nodak.edu. October 28, 1999 Students start posting their journals to the KIDPROJ email forum---For teachers who have a whole class doing the project, may limit the number of journals sent to perhaps the best 5. It is up to you. November 1, 1999 Teachers start activities with the students using the journals and data gathered from the KIDPROJ email forum. Please make plans to join us on this day.
