The
Golconda Fort was massive! When I saw it I was taken aback at how HUGE
a fort built in the 1500's could be. It had hot water, cold water, a primitive
telephone system, and an extremely intricate way of hiding the queen.
Carrying water to the top of the peak and then flowing it down through stone-heated conduits created the fort's water system. There were reservoirs every thirty feet up the side of the hill and servants would carry the water to the highest reservoir and from there water valves would restrict the flow through the conduits until needed.
From the reservoir the water would flow through
stones and then come down to the bottom where the queen's chamber was.
The telephone system was created by precise architecture and clapping.
The frontgate man would come to the center of the mortar structure and
clap his hands. The walls are made in such a way the echo and acoostics
send the echo through the roof and up to the top tower. The front gates
themselves are signs of genius. In order for anyone to reach the actual
gate they must go through a pass that is shaped like an "S". This "S" shape
therfore blocks any invader from using a
battering ram. Now if the Invader is smart enough
to use a elephant the sharp row of spikes set in the door at about nine
feet should stop the pachyderms large forehead from having any damage.
Even then the doors are at least twenty feet high and a foot thick. For
those of you who are histroy buffs you might know the mogul empire at one
time stretched it's greedy claws out to India. Through treachery and bribery
the moguls did take the Fort and though the fort went through a long seige
it still withstood. The Golconda fort was a witness to this invasion and
stood strong through the whole ordeal.
Though the fort did change hands quite a few times during the wars, it never lost it's splendor.
