On the right is a homework assignment given to young students in Hawaii participating in the "Grandmother and Me" project. Their teachers, Linda Andersen, Kathy Souza and Lori Furoyama, made the assignment sheet and gave it to the children to take home after I visited their class and talked to them about the project.

Parents helped the children copy their text in their home language. The next day in school the students copied their drawings in a paint program on the computer.
