In Swedish we call the maturnal grandmother MORMOR and the paternal for FARMOR. MOR is the old way of calling your mother and FAR is the old way of calling your father. Today we say MAMMA instead of MOR and PAPPA instead of FAR :)

In Swedish we say farmor if it is the mother of the father and mormor if it is the mother of the mother.

morfar = mothers father
mormor = mothers mother
morföräldrar = mothers parents (not normally used, we say, "morfar och mormor")
farfar = fathers father
farmor = fathers mother
farföräldrar = fathers parents (not normally used, we say, "farfar och farmor")
