Inventions and Granny's Age

From Herzlia Weizmann Primary School in South Africa

Dear Patti, Carolynn and Rubem, and all other participants

These are our Grade 1's answers to your questions:

1. She was born in 1898 and had gone to heaven by then. If she had still been alive, how old would she have been in 1970?

At first many of the Grade 1's called out "3000 years", but then we worked out that Patti's granny would have been 72 years in 1970. But Brett insisted we tell you that his granny is MUCH OLDER!

2. How old was your granny in 1981?

Artist: David

David worked out that 1981 was 19 years ago and explained how he worked that out. It was really hard for the Grade 1's to answer this question, so in the end we decided to all work out how old Yossi's granny was in 1981.

Yossi's granny is 66 today, so we worked out she was 47 in 1981 and the children thought that was VERY OLD!

3. What is in your house that your granny could not have owned?

Brittani - CD's and CD player
Joshua - computers
Janna - television (in fact, in South Africa we only got television in 1975, so most of the mothers and fathers of our children didn't have television either, when they were growing up!)
Yossi - computer games
Garren - laptops and Pokemon cards
Ayrton - Sony playstation
Jordan - Chappies bubblegum
Brett - printers
Louise - a calculator? (Louise isn't sure about this, but says she will ask her granny if she had a calculator when she was a little girl)

We are looking forward to seeing the answers from other children!

Patti asked Max what Jojos are. His granny gives him Jojos. This is Max's answer:

Artist: Max
Jojos are little monster toys about 3 cm big in different colours. You play games with them. for example, Put some jojo's in a circle and try to hit them with another jojo. If you hit one, you can keep it.

Love
Lindsay Hart & Barbara Donen

Mrs. Weeg replies to the students...

Mrs. Weeg asks Max about his Jojos
