Pre Writing
Rock Hall Middle School, Rock Hall, Maryland,  USA
Teacher: Terri Mullikin

Here is the 7th grade prewriting about Durding's Store.

Nick- been in Rock Hall since 1865; Floors are original; make own sodas, not machine made

Billy- old-fashioned door handle; music quietly playing in the background: fresh brewed coffee; telephone booth in the corner; original red leather soda fountain stools; homemade sodas taste better than bottled or canned

Katie- tin ceiling resembles original one; antique medicine and pharmacy bottles and equipment; to make a soda, mix syrup with seltzer in a glass

Jessie- Owned by one family for over 100 years; counter top is made of pink marble, and is the original one in the store; hanging on a wall is a painting that shows what Rock Hall looked like when Durding's was built; Mr. Durding was a pharmacist and a postman.

Kendra-  green and white awnings, holiday decorations, antique fire extinguisher

Thomas-  Green and white building; old fashioned cash register, doesn't total sales, you have to do it yourself, and just enter the total to open the drawer; orange and green pharmacy globes hang in the windows

Keshia- penny candy; used motor oil on floor to make it keep; Thomas Jefferson passed by the corner of Durding's; sells Beanie Babies

Carolyn- many soda flavors- sprite, root beer, vanilla, cherry, diet Coke, cola, and they can be mixed together; apotecary jars symbolize a pharmacy

Samantha- mail slot in door; candy counter was originally used to mix and store chemicals used in medicines; still have original pharmacy recipe books used to make medicines; old prescription forms; antique fire extinguisher

Tyler- door has a latch instead of a knob to get in; 1920 era milk shake machine still works

Danielle-  paint is worn; ceiling fans, old time straw dispenser, no door knob, smell of fresh baked goods, antique chair
