For our essay, our core is going to one of the tallest buildings in Chicago, the John Hancock Building.  We are going to see the view and we will write about our experience for all of you to read.

SIGHT
-Sears Tower is higher than a mountain
-parts of the Hancock are malls and stores and restaurants
-Lake Michigan goes on forever
-the clouds looked like big marshmallows
-hard-working people
-the sand of the beach was golden-yellow
-all the buildings towered over everything
-water stretching out to the horizon
-cars and people below looked like they were mechanical
-glass and screen windows
-clear, blue sky
- blue, green, aqua waters and purple-looking in spots
-sail boats and speedboats on the dark blue waters of Lake Michigan
-foggy, cloudy
-buildings so tall they could touch the sky!
-the United Center, large and round; it’s where the Bulls play
-on a clear day, one can see four states
-the tops of buildings were round, square and spikey.
-buildings were brown, gray, black, silver and red
-the sun made the water sparkle like diamonds
-great, fluffy, puffy clouds
-roads crisscrossing and going on forever to the horizon.
-racing brown leaves whirling in dirty, black air
-the turquoise water and the cloudy sky ran on until they faded into a
bubbly, blue foam
-thin, shadowy clouds
-tall skyscraper buildings
-the water shadows showed the depths of the water
-Lake Michigan was almost as clear as glass
-yellow and red leaves blowing on the ground
-the tremendous waves crashing on the sandy shore
-huge stone and steel buildings
-small pink flowers
-the huge white water rushing skyward from Buckingham Fountain
-tallest Sears Tower
-swimming pools on rooftops: blue, empty or dirty, some washed and ready
for winter
-shadows of the clouds on the lake looked like giant sea monsters
-the sun glittering and blinding on the lake
-water sparkling and shimmering
-people playing baseball in a faraway field looked like action figures
-from the ground, the Hancock looked as if it would fall.
-cars: red, black, blue, small, big
-cars soo small they looked like micro-machines
-the tiny people in the Drake Hotel
-the Rainforest Café with windows of red, blue and orange
-a yellow convertible that looked like a matchbox car from so far up
-the clouds blocked the sun from the lake and made the water appear
black.

TOUCH
-the coldness of the glass
-the cold wind rushing down our skin
-the cold wind nipping at my ears
-the feeling of moving up 28.5 meters per second in the elevator.
-felt sick at first in the elevator, then excited about what to see
-soft, green grass
-cold cement of sidewalks and steps
-air soooo cold, it felt like a million ice cubes hitting me!
-the sun warmed us during lunch
-feeling my ears pop as we went up 94 floors in 40 seconds.
-when my ears popped, it felt like tiny bubbles were inside my head.
-metal fences, plastic and wood fences that are smooth.
-jagged, rough leaves
-the smooth metal of the telescope
-the crunching of crisp, autumn leaves under my feet
-the elevator soaring us to the top
-the bus bumping up and down
-the rigid, strong metal of the window screens at the Hancock
-pain of my ears popping
-I felt like I was the tallest person of the face of the Earth
-Buckingham Fountain is high like a hill with a mist that refreshes

SMELL
-smell the freezing, fresh air in my nose
-the air smelled clean
-car exhaust
-sweet-smelling green grass
-musty water
-the smell of eggs at times

TASTE
-the cold, fresh air

SOUND
-the whisper of friends talking
-thundering planes overhead
-horns honking like geese
-engines and horns from cars
-people chattering and screaming on the bus
-our ears popping in the elevator-94 stories
-leaves rustling
-small taxicabs blowing loud horns
-waves crashing on the shore
-people’s voices
-music from stereos and boom boxes
-screaming horns of angry drivers
-ambulance sirens wailing down the street
-birds chirping
-in the observatory, we could hear the faint breeze whistling through
the screens

Info

-JHC was built in 1967
-it’s 31 years old
